I find black muddy river to be one of the most beautiful garcia/hunter tunes, but most of the versions of this song that I have feature Garcia singing pretty terribly. I was wondering if any of you know of any really killer BMRs. Preferably, I'd like a show I can DL off the archive.

Happy day,

So my son asked me for the version I thought best, and after listening to those mentioned here, I wanted to toss in 4/19/87 at Irvine Meadows. Voice cracks, but not so much, there's that heavy, haze-laden bass at the moments it should be and Jerry's licks hit at the spots that seem to work for me.

07-09-1995 encore, why not...all the '87 versions are pretty much the same anyway...

can't tell you the best BMR but can safely say the last one at soldier field is a painful to listen to as anything else I can think of. If you are looking for a version that does not have his voice cracking and the band actually in tempo, steer clear of that gig.

Don't know if it was the best but... 12/15/86 was certainly the most emotional! 1st time played during the 1st show after Jerry's coma. I was there... and I still remember the intensity!!!
